In order to allow international students to experience the atmosphere of traditional Chinese New Year and the charm of Chinese traditional culture, and feel the joy and warmth of Chinese New Year, on January 8th, our university organized a dumpling making activity for students from the college of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, the college of Food Science and Bioengineering, and the college of Computer and Information Engineering.
At the activity site, the teacher first introduced the traditional culture and folk customs of the Chinese Spring Festival to the overseas students, and then guided them to make dumplings on the spot. Every step was full of knowledge and fun, from dough mixing, skin rolling to stuffing and edge pinching. Under the careful guidance of their teachers, international students have studied and practiced diligently, not only mastering the skills of making dumplings, but also gaining a deep understanding of the cultural connotations behind this traditional delicacy. They tried clumsily or skillfully, occasionally emitting bursts of laughter and joy, exuding a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
Fang Jie, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office, explained to the students that there is an ancient Chinese saying: "Sending off guests with dumplings and welcoming them with noodles." Dumplings, as a food symbolizing reunion and reunion, not only symbolize the auspicious year of reunion, but also express the wish for guests to come back again during the farewell ceremony. At the end of the semester, some students are about to return to their home countries for winter vacation. We also take this opportunity to bid farewell to our students on behalf of the school, hoping that they will have a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to meeting again at the Tiannong campus next semester.
Thai student Wen Le from the School of Food Science and Bioengineering said that this activity not only taught them the traditional skill of making dumplings, but also made them deeply feel the unique charm of Chinese food culture. They are willing to share this wonderful experience with more friends and become ambassadors for the dissemination of Chinese traditional culture.
This dumpling making experience activity not only enriches the campus cultural life of international students, but also strengthens the education of Chinese culture for international students, deepens their understanding and identification with Chinese culture. Next, our school will continue to combine its professional characteristics, continuously expand the breadth and depth of international cooperation and exchanges, cultivate more international talents who are knowledgeable about China and friendly to China, knowledgeable about agriculture and loving agriculture, and make greater contributions to telling the stories of Tiannong and Tianjin well and spreading the voice of China.
